Interview with Alex and Javier
JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Alex: I had limited access from about 7:30AM to 9PM.
I was entitled to 15 minutes of talk time.
Javier: Yes. They are shut down everyday for feed up which
usually last an hour and for lockdown which is
usually at 11PM depending on your block officer.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Alex: Collect calls
Javier: I'm not sure. I believe it was something like $2 a
call local for 15 minute or $5 a call long
distance for 15 minutes. I know that you use
Envark as the provider.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Alex: No. We couldn't purchase phone cards.
Javier: No
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Alex: Yes, the jail screened my calls.
Javier: They say that they do but Ive heard some very open
conversations.

i do not know the date of these interviews, but talking to an inmate is highway robbery.. for 10 minutes of talk time there is a 5.95 fee and each call costs 1.80. I know most people would say, oh well... but there are parents out there struggling who need to talk to their kid who made a bad choice who we are trying to get into a rehab program. The calls are draining our bank account. The name of the company is IC soultions and they are based out of San Antontio TX.
